NOTES

TULRCA 1992, s.210 is entitled "Conciliation".

BASIC POSITION

ACAS can assist in bringing about settlement of a trade dispute not only by conciliation but also "by other means. . . ." including ". . . the appointment of a person other than an officer or servant of ACAS to offer assistance to the parties to the dispute with a view to bringing about a settlement" (TULRCA 1992, s.210 and see ACAS/functions of/conciliation services ).

This enables ACAS to arrange for "mediation" in appropriate cases - 4 cases to a single mediator and 1 to a Board of mediation in 2000/2001 (Source: ACAS Annual Report 2001, Appendix 1 - see notes at
ACAS/Annual Report ).
