the relationship between the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis and a serving police officer is not governed by contract but rather by statute and thus a police officer is not a worker within the meaning of Employment Rights Act 1996 s.230 (and so cannot present a claim for unlawful deduction from wages under Part II of that Act).
