ACAS has power to issue Codes of Practice under TULRCA 1992 s.199 "containing such practical guidance as it sees fit for the purpose of promoting the improvement of industrial relations" (see Codes of practice ).

ACAS has issued three Codes of Practice. They are:-

• CoP 1: on Disciplinary and Grievance Procedures (CoP 1), April 2009 came into force on 6th April 2009. This replaced a previous Code issued along with the ill fated 2004 compulsory dispute resolution procedures, repealed subject to transitional provisions with effect from 6th April 2009 (see notes at Disciplinary and Grievance Procedures - 2009 changes/ACAS Code of Practice ). It is backed up by notes in an ACAS Guidance Booklet to CoP1, April 2009.
  
• CoP 2: on Disclosure of information to trade unions for collective bargaining purposes (CoP 2), 2003.
  
• CoP 3: on Time off for trade union duties and activities (CoP3), Jan 2010 including guidance on time off for Trade Union Learning Representatives (see notes at Time off work/learning representatives ). This is a new version in effect from 1st January 2010 which replaces the previous ACAS Code of Practice on Time Off for Trade Union duties and activities (CoP 3) 2003 version which came into effect on 27th April 2003.
