The UK Statute Law Database


BASIC POSITION

After several years of development the UK Statute Law Database ("SLD") was finally released to the public on-line on 20th December 2006. SLD is the official revised edition of the statute book for the UK in electronic form. Its content is available for viewing and private use free of charge.

This is an important and very welcome development.

From the point of view of a user looking for Acts of Parliament the main differences between the SLD and the normal OPSI Acts of Parliament website (OPSI is the "Office of Public Sector Information") are (i) that the SLD is more complicated to use but (ii) the SLD can provide updated versions of many Acts whereas the OPSI site merely provides wording as at the date of enactment.
