Employment Rights (Dispute Resolution) Act 1998 s.5
ERDRA 1998 s.5 came into force on 1st August 1998 (see Acts of Parliament etc/Employment Rights (Dispute Resolution) Act 1998/Commencement dates ).
It amends the Employment Tribunals Act 1996 to give the Secretary of State power to make regulations establishing a new breed of "legal officers". Legal officers will be able to have quite wide semi-judicial powers, essentially in connection with procedural matters (in traditional terms, they will therefore be more akin to court registrars than to magistrates' court clerks).
The DTI has said that the use of legal officers will be subject to satisfactory conclusion of a pilot scheme in one or more tribunals.
