    BASIC POSITION

ACAS can assist in bringing about settlement of a trade dispute not only by conciliation but also "by other means. . . ." including ". . . the appointment of a person other than an officer or servant of ACAS to offer assistance to the parties to the dispute with a view to bringing about a settlement" (TULRCA 1992, s.210 and see ACAS/functions of/conciliation services ).

Acas supports increased use of mediation (see the Acas Mediation web page which includes an Acas video, the Acas Guide to Discipline and grievances at work, March 2009 and the Acas Pre-Claim Conciliation Service" or "PCC" noted at ACAS/a general introductory note ).

See also notes at ACAS/functions of/arbitration services and/or Mediation and ADR .
