EAT case 1500/00 on 8th February 2002, not reported.
the dismissal of an employee whose contract gives him a right of internal appeal takes effect from the date of dismissal not from the date of the appeal hearing if during the interval he has acted in a way which shows he has accepted that he has been dismissed. In that case he is not "suspended" during the interval between the dismissal and the appeal but rather is dismissed with a possibility of reinstatement depending on the outcome of the appeal.
