when a trade union is deciding whether to readmit to membership someone who it had previously expelled, there is no requirement in British statute law that the union should consider the sufficiency of the reason for the original expulsion. It can therefore legitimately decide to reject the application simply on grounds that the member had previously been expelled without examining the merits.
