It is unlawful for a child to engage or be employed in street trading, subject to any local education authority bye-laws which can allow children of 14+ to be employed in street trading by their parents (Children and Young Persons Act 1933, s.20).

Retail trade or business in a place where it is customary for it to be carried out is excepted (Children and Young Persons Act 1963, s.35).
