BASIC POSITION

As from 3rd January 1995 employment agencies have not required licences.

Instead, a new power is given to Employment Tribunals to make "prohibition orders" on application by the Secretary of State if an employment agency fails to maintain proper standards (Employment Agencies Act 1973 s.3A and see Employment Agencies/enforcement and prohibition orders ).
