although there is a "retirement exception" in the British anti-age discrimination regulations introduced on 1st October 2006 (the Employment Equality (Age) Regulations 2006, SI 2006/1031 reg 30) which makes it impossible for an employee to use those regulations to prevent forced retirement at age 65 or over, he or she may have rights under European law and may be able to claim that the British "retirement exception" is contrary to European law.
