BASIC POSITION
The ACAS Annual Reports home page and index provides links to all ACAS annual reports since 1999.
"Highlights" of the 2008/2009 ACAS annual report include:
- the number of requests for ACAS to intervene in collective disputes and conciliate between the two sides rose from 896 in the previous year to 960 in the year to 31st March 2009 - other recent comparative figures were 912 in the year ended 31.3.07; 952 in year ended 31.3.06; 1,123 in year ended 31.3.05; 1,244 in year ended 31.3.94 and 1,353 in year ended 31.3.03.
- there were 138,535 cases received for conciliation in the year to 31st March 2009 compared to 151,249 in the previous year, 105,177 in the year ended 31.3.07 and 109,712 in the year ended 31.3.06. For the second year running unfair dismissal claims were not the largest category of complaint - as in the year to 31st March 2008 the largest category was Equal Pay with 46,823 applications (previous year 53,952 applications, which was itself more than double the figure of 25,264 for the year to 31st March 2007).
- there were 43,028 unfair dismissal claims in the year to 31st March 2009 compared to 33,352 in the year to 21st March 2008.
- the ACAS helpline answered 726,306 (previous year - 885,353) calls at an average cost of £12.12 per call (previous year - £8.50). Redundancy, lay-offs and business transfers were the most common call topics.
