  • Equality Act Part 11 Chapter 1 is entitled "Public sector equality duty.
  • Equality Act 2010 s.149 is also entitled "Public sector equality duty.
  • Equality Act 2010 schedule 18 is entitled "Public Sector Equality Duty: Exceptions.
  • Equality Act 2010 schedule 19 lists public authorities to which s.149 applies (the list is extended by the Equalities Act 2010 (Public Authorities and Consequential and Supplementary Amendments) Order 2011, SI 2011/1060 which is fully in force by 5th April 2011).

    NOTES

    The Equality Duty is a duty on public bodies and others carrying out public functions. The intention is that it will "embed equality considerations into the day to day work of public bodies, so that they tackle discrimination and inequality and contribute to making society fairer".

    This duty is not considered further in this program as it is not specifically concerned with employment law aspects of the Equality Act and because there is an excellent "Government Equalities Office web-page on the Public sector equality duty".
