The main effect of the Nos 1 to 3 commencement orders noted above was to implement provisions in the Equality Act 2010 which enable the Secretary of State to make subordinate legislation or provide guidance before the main provisions of the Act came into force on 1st October 2010.

Note that many previous regulations are revoked by Equality Act 2010 sch 27 (as replaced by the Equality Act 2010 (Consequential Amendments, Saving and Supplementary Provisions) Order 2010, SI 2010/2279 sch 2). However many others are not revoked. Instead they continue to apply as if they had been made under Equality Act 2010 (see the special provision in Equality Act 2010 (Commencement No. 4, Savings, Consequential, Transitional, Transitory and Incidental Provisions and Revocation) Order 2010, SI 2010/2317 schedule 7).
