    BASIC POSITION

The basic position is that the substance of previous law imposing a "duty to make reasonable adjustments" on employers (and various other categories of people including employment service providers) for the benefit of disabled persons remains essentially unchanged by the Equality Act 2010 (see notes at Disability Discrimination/reasonable adjustments ).

However relevant new law under Equality Act 2010 is not identical to previous law. There is an extension to the employment field of the requirement to take reasonable steps to provide an auxiliary aid or auxiliary service to a person who would be at a substantial disadvantage, compared to non-disabled persons, without it.
