BASIC POSITION

The Armed Forces (Pensions And Compensation) Bill is a short Bill which gives the Secretary of State power to make a new occupational pension scheme (AFPS) for members of the Armed Forces and to establish a new compensation scheme for members of the Armed Forces, including the Reserve Forces, who are injured, suffer ill-health, or die as a result of their service.
The new scheme is due to start in April 2005 (appropriate enabling parts of the Act came into force on 21st January 2005 under the Armed Forces (Pensions and Compensation) Act 2004 (Commencement No 1) Order 2005, SI 2005/116 and other parts of the Act are in force on 22nd February 2005 and 6th April 2005 under the Armed Forces (Pensions and Compensation) Act 2004 (Commencement No. 2) Order 2005, SI 2005/356)
