The woman who netted £100,000 by making 22 claims of ageism

Daily Mail - 26/11/2008

An employment tribunal has branded Margaret Keane 'not a bona fide job applicant, but a serial litigator' after she brought age discrimination claims against 22 separate companies. The 50-year-old applied for vacancies aimed at 'recently qualified' chartered accountants, and then alleged age discrimination when she didn't get the jobs - despite the fact she did not include her date of birth on her CV.

Although twelve companies made out-of-court settlements with her, five of the claims were rejected by the Central London tribunal as the companies explained she was not adequately qualified for the jobs in question and had also shown no interest when offered other positions. Those five firms are now seeking costs against Miss Keane, on the basis that her claims have been an abuse of process.
