Emplaw ownsership change announced.

We are delighted to announce that the Emplaw service has recently been acquired by the General Federation of Trade Unions. The editorial team will remain, ensuring that the ongoing professional integrity and independence of emplaw.co.uk will continue but the service will benefit massively from the business expertise and commercial opportunities that the GFTU can contribute.
For over twenty years, Emplaw has provided, via emplaw.co.uk, comprehensive, up to date know-how on employment law written by experts in the field. Its enviable reputation is based on providing straight forward answers to the questions raised by busy advisors.
Since the service was relaunched in 2015, it has been going from strength to strength: subscribers now include trade unions and national employer and employee advisory organisations as well as solicitors in private practice and in-house, judges, academic institutions, and commercial businesses and their HR and legal advisors. Over 3000 people currently subscribe to Emplaw Monthly which is a one stop email update to keep them up-to-date with the month’s key cases, legislative developments and employment news.
The GFTU is perfectly placed to build and grow the business with a view to continuing the tradition of offering easy to access, authoritative and affordable legal information, to improve the lives of working people and support the legal profession to respond to the challenges of the modern world of work.

A brief history of Emplaw:
Emplaw Online first appeared on disc in 1993, evolving to CD-Roms and eventually going online in 1997.
Henry Scrope, the founder of the business qualified as a solicitor in 1968. Cambridge University educated, he worked with top city law firms and in house for an international group of companies. In the early 1990’s he designed and prepared content for an employment law computer programme, originally for his own use and as a study aid. The programme became known as e-LOAD (Law on a Disc) and began to attract interest as early as 1993, which lead to its commercialization.
In the late 1990s, there was no dedicated website for UK employment law on the internet, and Henry recognised the internet an opportunity to make the programme more accessible and to enable linking to cases and other material .By February 1997, the entire programme had been modified and went live as www.emplaw.co.uk, the first British employment law site on the web. Henry sold the business in 2011. When it was taken over by Constantia Associates Ltd.
The General Federation of Trade Unions purchased Emplaw from Constantia Associates Ltd in April 2020.
