UK’s first specialist employment law website re-launches
The UK’s first specialist employment law website has been re-launched by new owners to provide authoritative, independent information to lawyers, advisors, HR professionals and anyone keen to stay on top of employment law.
Emplaw Online (www.emplaw.co.uk), a provider of employment law information for almost 20 years, now offers up to date, easily searchable and logically presented information, written by leading employment lawyers at an affordable price.
The company was originally founded by city lawyer Henry Scrope in the 90s and became a highly respected daily tool for thousands of people who relied on its extensive database of comprehensive information and case summaries.
In 2014 the then owners of the site went into liquidation due to dated content and technical problems. The service was bought by Constantia Associates, determined to update and refocus the site – both from a content and technology point of view - to provide the current generation of employment professionals with urgent answers to all their employment law-related questions. The new and remodeled site will be launched on 21st January 2015.
The company is headed by leading employment lawyer, Claire Perry, formerly Head of Employment Policy and Freelance Legal Affairs at the BBC, who oversees the improved content offering.
“As a practicing employment lawyer I understand how important it is to have up-to-date and reliable information that is easily accessible across all platforms,” Claire Perry says.
“Employment law is a broad subject that is continually evolving and whether a subscriber wants to check a point or fully explore a subject, we provide the trusted information they need.’’
“Our contributors, who are from leading law firms and top ranked chambers have done the research for you and have distilled the information into logical, on line law cards, which are easy to find. The cards are all cross referenced and contain up to date links to legislation and case reports including our own archive of 100s of case summaries’’
The company has been publishing a monthly newsletter with a review of the month’s developments in employment law and professional summaries of key cases, during the website transition period and will continue to offer this to subscribers to the Emplaw Online Service’
A team of IT experts have built the new site using scalable technologies to ensure it integrates with subscriber organisations as well as mobile devices and has search facilities customized to subscriber needs.
“Although Emplaw Online is no longer the only online employment law service in the market, we believe the new enhanced offering fills a gap for an authoritative, affordable and user-friendly service.”
“We are keen to build on Emplaw Online’s pedigree and use our expertise to give users the service they need without breaking the bank,” says Claire.
The new service will cost £475 per year per person, with pro rata discounts for organisations.

A brief history of Emplaw Online
Emplaw Online first appeared on disc in 1993, evolving to CD-Roms and eventually going online in 1997.
Henry Scrope, the founder of the business qualified as a solicitor in 1968. Cambridge University educated, he worked with top city law firms and in house for an international group of companies. In the early 1990’s he designed and prepared content for an employment law computer programme, originally for his own use and as a study aid. The programme became known as e-LOAD (Law on a Disc) and began to attract interest as early as 1993, which lead to its commercialization.
In the late 1990s, there was no dedicated website for UK employment law on the internet, and Henry recognised the internet an opportunity to make the programme more accessible and to enable linking to cases and other material .By February 1997, the entire programme had been modified and went live as www.emplaw.co.uk, the first British employment law site on the web. Henry sold the business in 2011.
