Aziz-Mir v Sainsburys Supermarkets Plc - Tribunal chairman's "sixth-hand" link to respondent through charitable organisations does not amount to bias EAT
An employment tribunal rejected Mr Aziz-Mir's claims of race discrimination and victimisation. He appealed, alleging perversity, bias and apparent bias. The EAT dismissed his appeal on no less that 45 allegations of perversity - the conclusions reached were all properly open to the tribunal. However, they accepted that the claim of apparent bias (based upon the tribunal's alleged attitude and questions of Mr Aziz-Mir) should go forward to be fully considered by the EAT at a future date. On the question of actual bias, however, the EAT dismissed the appeal.
