Braganza v BP Shipping Limited and another [2015] UKSC

Employer’s conclusion of suicide was unreasonable.

The Supreme Court in Braganza v BP considered whether it was reasonable for an employer to rely on the report of an inquiry into an oil tanker’s Chief Engineer’s supposed death (he disappeared, presumed overboard) which concluded that his death was by reason of suicide.
