Charles v Tesco Stores Ltd - was claim as claimant apparently believed it, or as it was pleaded and presented?

Although a litigant in person may have a belief in what his claim is, a tribunal can only decide upon the nature of a claim from what it can read, see and hear in evidence - and so may come up with a different understanding.
