City & County of Swansea v Honey - A rare but clear case of apparent bias [2008] EAT

When Swansea dismissed legal officer Mr Honey, an employment tribunal held the dismissal to be unfair. The employer then found that one of the lay members, the District Secretary of the RMT trade union, was representing taxi drivers in an ongoing acrimonious dispute against Swansea, and had strongly criticised the council in the press. Swansea's legal department learnt of this involvement only after the hearing.
