Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis v Virdi - Meaning of "disability" [2006] EAT

London Central Employment Tribunal ruled that Sgt Virdi suffered from a disability within the meaning of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995.

The employer appealed. The EAT has allowed the appeal to the extent that it has remitted the matter back to the tribunal with instructions to take account of the "Coping Strategies" (eg spectacles) mentioned in the "Guidance relating to matters to be taken into account in determining questions relating to the definition of disability".
