Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis v Weeks - Commissioner liable for actions of his officer in management of other staff [2011] EAT

Chief Officer of police is liable for discriminatory actions of his officers in their management of other staff, albeit those officers are technically not his employees, because statute law deems them to be his employees.

Ms Weeks was a civilian employee of the Metropolitan Police, and worked as a Senior Crime Intelligence Researcher in the Dedicated Cheque and Plastic Crime Unit (DCPCU). She was line managed by a City of London (CLP) police sergeant, whom she alleged had sexually discriminated against her by refusing a flexible working application and ending payment of a shift allowance to her.
