Connelly v BIFFA Waste Services - extension of time for appeal
Stress, depression and an associated dependence on cannabis are not excuses for submitting an appeal to the EAT out of time.
An Employment Tribunal dismissed Mr Connelly's claims of unfair dismissal (he did not have the necessary qualifying service) and sex discrimination (out of time). The final decision of the tribunal was dated 15th April 2011. Mr Connelly lodged an appeal with the EAT on 2nd August 2011, well outside the 42 day time limit. The Registrar refused to extend time to allow the appeal in, and Mr Connelly appealed against her decision.
