Mr Cowen worked for Initial as a night contract manager for 5 years until he was dismissed by reason of redundancy in October 2006. There was inadequate consultation and no attempt to find him alternative employment. An employment tribunal found the dismissal was unfair. He got a new job almost immediately but only kept it for 3 months.
