Hutchinson v Calvert - "Some other substantial reason" for dismissal EAT
Mr Hutchinson was almost totally disabled. He employed Ms Calvert as his carer (the cost being met by the DSS). After certain disagreements she was dismissed by his mother. An employment tribunal found that her dismissal was both substantially and procedurally unfair.
Mr Hutchinson appealed on the basis that the reason for dismissal was some other substantial reason, namely the breakdown of trust and confidence between the parties.
