London Borough of Islington v Ladele - Registrar was disciplined for conduct, not religious beliefs that caused it EAT
Registrar Lillian Ladele succeeded in her claim of religious discrimination against Islington Council. The Council took disciplinary action against her when, due to her Christian religious beliefs, she refused to conduct civil partnership ceremonies for same sex-couples. Notably the employment tribunal considered that the Council should have accommodated her and her beliefs - as others had apparently done.
Islington Council appealed - and won.
