London Borough of Redbridge v (1) Dhinsa (2) McKinnon - restriction of "constables'" right to claim unfair dismissal is wide-ranging
"Constables" in a "constabulary maintained by enactment" are precluded from claiming ordinary unfair dismissal. This covers a wide range of constables and constabularies, and not just those appointed under the Police Act 1996.
Messrs Dhinsa and McKinnon brought claims of unfair dismissal. However, they were employed by LB Redbridge as Parks Police: Mr Dhinsa as a constable and Mr McKinnon as a sergeant. they patrolled in police uniform, to enforce the law as required.
