Moult v East Sussex County Council - Length of service cannot outweigh need for transparency in dealings of local authority employees so as to make dismissal unfair  EAT
Having worked for the Council since 1980, Mrs Moult was dismissed in 2006 when her new manager raised a number of conduct issues. She had breached the policy on conflict of interest by herself authorising her partner (a contractor for the Council) to do work, and allowed breaches of health & safety legislation in a scheme for which she was responsible. An employment tribunal held that dismissal for her conduct, although harsh given her length of service, was within the range of reasonable responses and thus fair. Mrs Moult appealed.
