New Southern Railway v Quinn - Maternity and health & safety [2005] EAT

There is a statutory requirement on employers to alter working conditions to avoid health and safety risk to a new or expectant mother. Adopting a purposive approach, the EAT has ruled that the word 'avoid' does meanĀ "reduce to its lowest acceptable level", not "eliminate in entirety".
