The "but for" test is innappropriate for deciding whether a dismissal amounts to unlawful discrimination. An act of unlawful discrimination which leads to an argument between employees which leads to disciplinary proceedings and eventually to a dismissal does not make the dismissal an act of unlawful discrimination.
