Power v Greater Manchester Police Authority - dismissal was not due to religious beliefs themselves, but how they were manifested
There is a distinction to be drawn between treatment (such as dismissal) on grounds of a person's beliefs and treatment on the grounds of the manifestation of those beliefs.
Mr Power, a committed spiritualist, worked for Greater Manchester Police Authority (GMPA). He was employed as a Special Constabulary Trainer. Within days of his starting work, police officers complained that his style on training courses was disruptive and unhelpful. When these complaints were investigated, it emerged that he had been distributing CDs and posters relating to spirtualism.
