Right to Time Off for Union Activities
- An employee who is a member of an independent trade union which is also a recognised trade union (in respect of that description of employee) is entitled to reasonable time off work to take part in trade union activities (TULRCA 1992, s.170).
- An employee exercising this right has no statutory right to pay during the time off.
- The ACAS Code of Practice on time off for trade union duties and activities (CoP 3) 2010 provides further guidance on how this statutory right operates
