Secretary of State for Justice v Slee - redundancy and maternity leave
Ms Slee is a solicitor. She was employed by the Department for Justice as a Magistrates' Clerk at Wimbledon (Merton). She became one of five people in the senior management team at the court and she had substantial responsibilities.
The facts indicate a degree of bureaucracy which was complicated, to say the least, but in essence resulted in Ms Slee's job becoming redundant and her rejecting alternative employment which was offered. A further complication was that she was off work either on maternity leave or on sick leave at various stages.
