Notice of resignation cannot be unilaterally withdrawn, but the notice period can be extended or shortened by agreement: it is a matter of fact in all the circumstances whether such agreement has occurred.
Dr Willets worked as Director of Support Services with the Jennifer Trust for Spinal Muscular Atrophy ("Jennifer"). By letter dated 28th June 2010 she resigned, claiming that her position was untenable and indicating that her last day would be 30th July 2010. Jennifer asked her to reconsider by 9th July - on that date she confirmed she would be resigning and that, as she was required to give 4 weeks notice, her last day would be 6th August 2010.
