Allen & Others v GMB - "manipulating" members of trade union was a disproportionate means of achieving a legitimate aim and so amounted to indirect sex discrimination - Court of Appeal 16.7.08

In this long-running equal pay saga, an employment tribunal found that the trade union GMB had indirectly discriminated against its women members when it persuaded them to accept settlements of their equal pay claims well below what they might have achieved through litgation. GMB had preferred to focus its efforts on longer-term goals of pay protection and better pay/equality of pay in the future.
