Merelie v Newcastle Primary Health Care Trust & Ors - High Court 20.6.06

Ms Merelie was employed from 1975 to 2001 as Senior Dental Officer in the Community Dental Service in Newcastle. She was dismissed following complaints by dental nurses that they did not wish to work with her as she was liable to lose her temper. She sued her ex-employer for breach of contract (notably breach of the implied duty of trust and confidence) and also claimed defamation and that there had been breaches of the Protection from Harassment Act 1997. The High Court has dismissed her claims (but an unfair dismissal complaint to the employment tribunal is still pending).
