Pearson v United Kingdom - UK state pension and sex discrimination - ECtHR - 22.8.06

Mr Pearson complained that as a man he was unable to receive his UK State pension until age 65 whereas a woman could claim her State pension at age 60. He claimed that the UK was in breach of the European Human Rights Convention Art 14 combined with Art 1 of Protocol 1. The European Court of Human Rights has dismissed his complaint as equalisation of pension ages is to be phased in between 2010 and 2020 (under Pensions Act 1995 s.126) and that it is perfectly reasonable not to rush such changes.
