Goodwin v United Kingdom - no damages awarded for loss due to discriminatory failure to pay Widow's Bereavement Allowance - ECtHR [2008] ECHR 61 on 22.1.08

Another claim based on the UK government's refusal to pay Widow's Bereavement Allowance (WBA) to a man, since he was not a "widow". WBA was abolished in 2001 so that this situation, which the ECHR found to be discriminatory on grounds of sex, was removed. In respect of complaints to the ECHR about the pre-2001situation these have mostly been settled.
