Director of Public Prosecutions v Gohill & Walsh - minor dishonesty of employees - QBD 5.2.07
Two employees of HSS HIre Group did favours for customers at the expense of the company. This involved small amounts of money and was infrequent but involved making false computer entries. What was done was not permitted by the company's rules but in a loose sense could be described as customer service ultimately for the benefit of the company. A Magistrates Court dismissed charges of theft and false accounting on the basis that they were not satisfied beyond reasonable doubt that by the standards of reasonable and honest people, the employees had acted dishonestly.
