Rice & Anor v Secretary of State for Trade & Industry & Anor - dockworkers and asbestos - Court of Appeal 4.4.07

Edward Rice and Robert Thompson were dock workers at Liverpool docks for many years until 1967. 1967. They handled asbestos cargoes while working at the docks. Mr Rice has since died. His widow and Mr Thompson, who is still alive, won a preliminary claim in the High Court that they were owed a duty of care by the National Dock Labour Board (now the DTI). The DTI's appeal against that decision has now been dismissed by the Court of Appeal.
