In re Leeds United Association Football Club Ltd (in administration) - damages for wrongful dismissal do not have priority as "wages or salary" in event of an insolvent liquidation - High Court (Chancery Division) 25.7.07

Partners in KPMG were appointed as administrators of Leeds Football Club Ltd in May 2007. To protect themselves against possible liability to players for wrongful dismissal, and thus enable them to try to ensure that the Club could continue, they needed to be sure that any liability for damages for wrongful dismissal to footballers would rank after their own fees in the pecking order if the club went into insolvent liquidation. They obtained the required confirmation from the High Court in May 2007 and Pumfrey J has now given reasons for his decision.
