Anderson v United Kingdom - Widow's Bereavement Allowance - ECtHR 20.11.07

One of a number of cases where the European Court of Human Rights confirms that the refusal to pay Widow's Bereavement Allowance (WBA) to widowers was unlawful sex discrimination in breach of Article 14 ECHR.


The position has been rectified by the Finance Act 1999 sec 34 which abolished WBA in relation to deaths after 6 April 2000. Valid claims have been settled.
