In March 2006 the Parliamentary Ombudsman, Ann Abraham, published a highly critical report on the government's role in the "occupational pensions" saga in which some 125,000 people lost pensions when their employers could not pay and their pension schemes were underfunded. The Ombudsman said government sponsored information had been "sometimes inaccurate, often incomplete, largely inconsistent and therefore potentially misleading, and that this constituted maladministration".
