Peacock v United Kingdom - no sex discrimination in refusal to pay benefits where woman in same circumstances would not in any event be entitled to them - ECtHR 11.3.08

Mr Peacock's claim of sex discrimination based on the refusal to pay him Widow's Pension was dismissed on the same grounds as in Harding v United Kingdom reported elsewhere in this updater. The ECtHR also rejected his similar claim in connection with Widow's Payment (WPt) and Widowed Mother's Allowance (WMA). Its reasoning was as follows:
