IH v Secretary of State for Work and Pensions - Maternity Allowance

A woman who has not met the precise criteria for payment of National Insurance Contributions (NICs) relating to the 66-week prior to her Expected Week of Childbirth (EWC) cannot claim a Maternity Allowance (a benefit for women who do not qualify for Statutory Maternity Pay) in spite of the fact that she was given misleading information about her entitlement by the Department for Work & Pensions and HMRC.
