Shoesmith, R (on the application of) v OFSTED & Others - dismissal by local authority was amenable to judicial review

The circumstances in which a public body dismisses an office holder may be amenable to challenge by way of judicial review, notwithstanding that unfair dismissal is almost entirely the preserve of the employment tribunal. However, this should only occur where the employment tribunal cannot offer an "equally convenient or effective remedy".
