ICO v Hames and Turley - customer data theft by employees of mobile phone company

Two former T-Mobile employees pleaded guilty at Chester Crown Court in 2010 to various offences under Data Protection Act 1998 s.55 (Unlawful obtaining etc of personal data).  Sentencing was deferrred.

They had stolen and sold customer data, essentially mobile phone contract information,  from T-Mobile.  On June 10th 2011 they were ordered to pay a total of £73,700 in fines and confiscation costs.
